OpenFeint goes multiplatform

Popular iPhone games platform OpenFeint has announced that it is to go cross-platform.

Much like Xbox Live, OpenFeint allows users to build friends lists, unlock ‘achievements’ and post high scores, all of which can be compared with friends.

Now this same functionality will be made consistent across iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7.

We believe games should connect people, regardless of what device or mobile OS they own," OpenFeint founder and CEO Jason Citron stated.

"With the release of OpenFeint Connect, we give game developers the flexibility they need to take their games and game data to players everywhere. Developers are always asking if we support the Mac App Store, now with this API, we can support them.”

OpenFeint currently boasts over 65m users and is compatible with over 4,700 games.

OpenFeint chairman Peter Relan added: To really thrive, we think social networks must be able to work across every platform and device. OpenFeint launched the first mobile social network and, with OpenFeint Connect, we’re now the first truly cross platform gaming network."
