Sony denied Google, PayPal subpoenas

Sony’s ongoing war on hackers has stumbled as a judge has ruled against the company’s planned subpoenas.

In order to learn more about the identities of hackers such as George ‘GeoHot’ Hotz, fail0verflow and others responsible for the surge in PS3 hacking, Sony attempted to subpoena the likes of Google, YouTube, Twitter, PayPal, Slashdot and more.

However, US District Judge the Honorable Susan Illston has denied Sony’s request for expedited discovery – which would shorten the time in which court hearings could take place –according to documents found by PSX-Scene.

This prevents the company for sending out the aforementioned subpoenas. The hearing on Sony Computer Entertainment America’s motion against Hotz is now scheduled to take place on March 11th.
