Champions Online gets free-to-play date

Atari Europe’s superhero MMO Champions Online will officially become a free-to-play title on January 25th.

Developer Cryptic first revealed its intention to remove mandatory subscription charges back in October.

Though the game will be free to play to all, a number of premium additions will also be available to purchase. These include adventure packs, in-game items and costumes. There are no restrictions on how long the game can be played for.

Existing subscribers and new users are free to pay monthly for Gold Status which unlocks nearly all of the game’s content for 10.34 a month.

"It’s a genuine pleasure to be able to announce our release date for Champions Online: Free for All," Cryptic Studios CEO John Needham stated.

"On January 25th any gamer or would-be superhero can play within the ever-improving world of Champions Online for no cost whatsoever."
