New middleware enables WoW on Kinect

US researchers have created a new piece of middleware that allows gamers to play World of Warcraft with Kinect.

Entitled FAAST – Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Tool – the software translates physical gestures into keyboard commands through Microsoft’s motion controller.

The technology was created by an Institute for Creative Technologies team working out of the University of Southern Carolina and was demonstrated using Blizzard’s hugely popular MMO World of Warcraft.
