250k now registered with engine as Unity's post-MIGs conference draws close

Unity’s user numbers soar as Unite nears

Unity has seen its registered users climb to 250,000 just a week before the return of the engine outfit’s own developer conference Unite.

Just over a month after the launch of Unity 3, the increasingly popular engine’s registered user base has risen from 13,000 to 250,000 year-over-year. Meanwhile, installs of the free Unity Web Player have exceeded 35 million.

“This has been a banner year, and the blessings simply won’t end," said David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies. “We bet on democratisation of technology and then upped the ante with a truly free license. Our growth proves how valuable enabling technologies are and how relevant 3D is to gaming as well as marketing, training, visualisation and simulation.”

The milestone comes just days before the annual Unite conference, which runs from 10th to 12th November at the Marché Bonsecours in Old Montreal. Unite, which welcomes artists, programmers, designers, researchers, publishers and enthusiasts, is now in its fourth year, and follows immediately after the Montreal International Game summit.

As well as providing ample opportunity to network and socialise, Unite 2010 will offer a number of advanced hands-on classes and technical sessions.
