Dragon Age 2 gets its own Cerberus

EA’s Dragon Age 2 will follow in the footsteps of fellow BioWare release Mass Effect 2 by offering an online content hub that can only be accessible by use of a code found in new copies of the game.

Pre-owned buyers will face a $10 outlay to access the same content.

In Mass Effect 2 it was referred to as The Cerberus Network, though its branding in Dragon Age 2 has yet to be revealed.

We haven’t announced what’s in it,” executive producer Mark Darrah told Joystiq. But it’ll definitely be something kind of in that Cerberus vein where there will be additional content.”

The scheme is a slightly different manifestation to the likes of EA’s Online Pass, which requires the use of the code to access the online component of titles such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 and FIFA 11.

The Cerberus Network was created to reward loyal BioWare and Mass Effect fans with continued high quality content and to keep our fans engaged in the Mass Effect universe,” BioWare’s general manager Ray Muzyka told MCV in March.

We always try to make the best decisions for each game as we develop it, so we decide this sort of approach on a case-by-case basis. The approach we took to post-release downloadable content in Dragon Age has been successful, as has the Cerberus network in Mass Effect 2.

I’m sure we’ll continue to refine our approach in the future – we’re always interested in finding cool new ways to reward our loyal fans, and to continue building out the worlds of our games.”
