Development team for Ubisoft surprise hit goes from over 30 staff to almost 60

Just Dance team doubles up for sequel

An excellent piece posted over at Eurogamer today looks at just why Ubisoft’s Just Dance became a global hit.

And it reveals how seriously development of the next game is being taken, with the staff count doubling for Just Dance 2.

58 developers at Ubisoft’s Paris studio will work on the sequel for Wii – almost double the 34 who made the first game, originally conceived as a spin-off from a mini-game in a party compilation for the Nintendo console.

The game has proven a huge success, selling almost four million copies globally.

Ubisoft producer Florian Granger said: "I think there are loads of reasons why the game has been so well received. It might sound like a cliché, but it really does offer a unique dancing experience in it promotes communal, authentic dancing, rather than merely stepping in time. The tone of the game is fun too. We don’t take the presentation too seriously, and I think players respond to that well, especially when we’re asking them to do something as extroverted as dancing."
