iPhone 4 goes on sale

The iPhone 4 arrived in the UK this morning, with customers queuing from the early hours to be in with a chance of laying their hands on one.

Apple’s latest smartphone went on sale from 7am today, by which point BBC News reports that hundreds were waiting outside Apple’s flagship Regent Street store – some for 24 hours.

PCR was at the O2 store in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, at 9am, where dozens stood in line. Orange, which is also offering the iPhone 4, by comparison did not have a single person waiting outside its nearby shop.

Apple is selling sim-free iPhone 4 handsets from 499 for 16GB or 599 for 32GB. The new device is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor.

The firm announced yesterday that white models of the new device will not be available until late July.
