Heavy Rain hits 1m

One of the biggest publishing gambles of recent times has very much paid off with the news that Quantic Dream’s PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain has now sold over 1m copies worldwide.

The game, which is the child of Fahrenheit creator David Cage, is best described as an interactive movie and has been celebrated as an innovative, unique – and for many, moving – gaming experience.

We have sold more than 1m copies of Heavy Rain worldwide,” Cage told German site Play3, as translated by GameSpot.

That was a surprise to many, since estimated sales were between 200,000 to 300,000 units. We estimate that by the end of the year, we will have sold 1.5m copies, and are very pleased with the reception.”

Heavy Rain entered the UK charts at no.1 last month, providing Sony with the first of its two UK number ones of 2010 to date.

Cage has since indicated that with his next project he wants to try to bring to multiplayer experiences the same change that Heavy Rain was to single-player”.
