Mafia II gets autumn release

2K Games has announced an autumn release date for its upcoming open-world mobster action game Mafia II.

The title will hit UK stores on August 27th for PS3, PC and Xbox 360, three days after its US release. It’s in development by 2K Czech – the team behind the award-winning original Mafia game.

Players will control Vito, a poor Italian-American immigrant who is trying to escape his poverty-stricken life but descends into a life of organised crime.

President of 2K Cristoph Hartmann said: While most mob-inspired games’ emphasis is solely on action, Mafia II features a deep and compelling narrative that is embellished with a sophisticated, era-evoking atmosphere.”

2K Games recently made a deal with Playboy which will see a range of 1940s and 1950s magazine covers make it into the game. Mafia II was originally announced back in August 2007, bringing its total development cycle to three years.
