Sony: UMD alive and well

Sony has claimed that its troubled UMD format is still going strong, and that it has no plans to drop the format in the foreseeable future.

During a session at last week’s GDC, the platform holder insisted that UMD is alive and well” as a format and reiterated that all new PSP releases will be available on both a UMD disc and as a digital download on PSN, according to IGN.

Sony announced life-to-date sales for PSP have reached 17 million units in North America, and 60 million units worldwide.
