PlayStation phone reports resurface

A report in the Wall Street Journal says an oft-rumoured PlayStation Phone – co-developed with Sony Ericsson – will arrive in 2010. It will shares characteristics of netbooks, electronic-book readers and handheld-game machines”, and will offer downloadable PlayStation games via the company’s iTunes competitor Sony Online Service.

The article – which cites sources "familiar" with the project – says the multi-functional device is being tilted against iPad and iPhone, as Sony execs scramble to regain lost ground against Apple. Sony is refusing to comment on the existence of the device, or on suggestions that it could be launched sometime this year.
