76 Wii games join 1m club

As part of its media frenzy at yesterday’s American press gathering, Nintendo has revealed that 76 Wii games have now sold in excess of 1m copies.

Furthermore, of those games 22 are first party titles – meaning that 54 games released by third party publishers have now hit the impressive sales milestone.

The statistic challenges the often voiced belief that non-Nintendo games struggle to sell on Nintendo’s popular home console.

"Publishers are always juggling resources and juggling their choices," Nintendo of America’s executive VP of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway told Gamespot.

"I think that smart developers, smart publishers will continue to put a focus on developing for our platforms."

At the same event Nintendo confirmed the North American release dates for both the DSi XL and Super Mario Galaxy 2.
