JAPAN: NSMB smashes Wii record

Just this morning MCV reported that New Super Mario Bros Wii had shifted an impressive 422k units in Nintendo’s homeland of Japan in its first 24 hours on the shelves – and now the game has gone on to smash Wii’s week one sales record in the territory.

Famitsu reports that the game shifted an incredible 936,734k units in its first week, tumbling the previous Wii week-one record set by Super Smash Bros Brawl, which shifted 816k in its first seven days, according to Kotaku.

It also narrowly bests the week-one sales enjoyed by predecessor New Super Mario Bros on DS, which managed 900k in the same timeframe.

New Super Mario Bros Wii is currently at number four in the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40.
