Armed with over 400 years of collective engine expertise, CodeDev’s new division launches to solve the gaming industry’s critical frame rate and stability crisis.
CodeDev (fondly known as ‘The Unreal Guys’), the UK-based co-development studio has today officially announced the launch of The Performance Guys. Operating as a highly specialised division, this elite team is debuting as the world’s only dedicated group of bespoke Performance Engineers and Technical Artists explicitly built to tackle project-critical optimisation challenges.
With modern game titles facing unprecedented scrutiny over launches plagued by frame-rate stutters, memory bottlenecks, and platform instability, The Performance Guys enter the market to solve optimisation issues way ahead of launch – long before they become critical to a project’s success.
The team consists of engineers and technical artists 100% dedicated to performance optimisation across Unreal Engine, Unity, and proprietary tech. Operating from a newly established Centre of Excellence, the division is equipped to deliver peak smoothness and stability across indie, AA, and AAA video games, as well as virtual productions and high-end visualisations.
Unlike traditional QA or late-stage compliance patching, The Performance Guys integrate directly into a partner’s production pipeline, bridging the gap between code, design, and art.
“We optimise what matters for shipping, not just benchmarks. Performance issues affect every single game title in development today. We are not here to just hand developers a spreadsheet of problems – we are a pragmatic, hardware-aware team that jumps straight into the engine to eliminate bottlenecks and stabilise frame rate targets under extreme production pressure,” said Myke Parrot (CEO).
Though launching publicly today, The Performance Guys have already been operating covertly on major titles with partners such as Epic Games, Hangar 13 (Mafia: The Old Country), Otherside Entertainment (Thick as Thieves) and an Undisclosed AAA Title. Within these projects, the team deployed specialised optimisations to drastically reduce memory footprints – including a massive cross-console overhaul that slashed memory usage by up to 50%, to bring it within strict platform targets.
The studio’s rapid integration capabilities have already earned glowing praise, with Epic Games stating: “We truly appreciate their high quality, how quickly they’ve integrated with us… and of course their lightning-quick and effective responses to our needs.”
The Performance Guys launches with the full backing, infrastructure, and aggressive growth plans of the CodeDev Group, led by Myke Parrott (CEO), Rik Alexander (Chair) and Andy Norman (COO).
“Unreal Engine is incredibly powerful, but unlocking its full potential and getting a game to run flawlessly takes a really specific type of technical expertise, and is often something that gets left until too late in the development cycle. It’s something our partners were repeatedly asking for help with, so we decided to officially do something to help,” said Myke.
To support this launch and fuel their ambitious growth plans, The Performance Guys have confirmed they are actively accepting applications from Senior Engineers. While based in the UK, they operate a remote-friendly model, so welcome enquiries from individuals with significant experience in optimisation, across indie, AA or AAA.
