All-new age ratings announced

Industry trade body ELSPA has unveiled a brand new traffic lights rating system to clear up consumer confusion at retail. Designed to give an ‘at a glance’ guide to the content of video games, the system will categorise games according to five levels of content.

In similarities to ratings currently used in food packaging, the system is designed to improve customer understanding of game content following criticisms made in the Byron report earlier this year that understanding of PEGI symbols is poor amongst consumers.

ELSPA hopes the traffic light ratings will help combat that customer uncertainty ahead of the end of the government’s consultation process into video games ratings on November 20th.
