Develop technology editor Jon Jordan surveys third-party engines

GUIDE: Games engines

While many headlines in games development news might be grabbed by the likes of Epic’s Unreal 3 and id’s Tech 5, there are game engines available for all sorts of different projects, Jon Jordan says in this month’s technology guide.

Available to read here, the guide covers five major players – Qubesoft, Crytek and Emergent as well as old favourites Epic and id.

"When it comes to any sort of engine, sheer horsepower
generally wins out, and that seems to be the priority in terms of the big studio-wise deals publishers are signing up for," says author Jon Jordan, Develop’s technology editor, in the guide which profiles the various features of each technology.
