Writers’ Guild Awards reveals nominations for Best Writing In A Video Game

The Writers Guild of Great Britain has announced the nominations for its annual Writers’ Guild Awards, revealing three names that are in with a chance of winning n award for Best Writing in a Video Game: Virginia, Fragments of Him and perhaps surprisingly, FIFA17.

FIFA 17’s single player story mode, the narrative-focussed mode dubbed The Journey, was written by Martin Korda, Matthew Turner and Tom Watt. It’s the first time EA Sports has brought a story mode into their premier football franchise.

Other nods went to Virginia, the Lynchian mystery title written by Jonathan Burroughs, Lyndon Holland and Terry Kenny. The game sees you playing a graduate FBI agent trying to get to the bottom of a missing person investigation in a small town.

The final game of the trio is Mata Haggis’ first-person narrative romp, Fragments of Him, which is based on the life and death of Will, a man who dies early in the game.

The winner will be announced at the Writers’ Guild Awards awards ceremony, taking place on the 23rd January 2017 at the Royal College of Physicians in central London.
