Quantum Break studio Remedy partners with Smilegate for Crossfire 2

The Finnish developer behind Max Payne, Alan Wake and Quantum Break, Remedy, is teaming up with Korean firm Smilegate for a sequel to its billion-dollar free-to-play shooter, Crossfire.

At China Joy, Smilegate revealed that Remedy would be developing the story mode for the upcoming Crossfire 2.

The first Crossfire game has been a huge hit, bringing in $950m in 2013, with The Korea Herald claiming it grossed a further $1.3bn in 2014.

Smilegate invested 28m into Starbreeze in January of this year, a venture that will allow the Swedish developer to create new Crossfire games, too.

Crossfire 2 is presumably one of the two games Remedy is said to be working on at the moment.

"The whole team here at Remedy is incredibly excited to be a key partner in developing the future of the Crossfirefranchise," read a statement on Remedy’s website.

"Smilegate specifically chose Remedy to bring our unique blend of storytelling, memorable characters and inventive gameplay to Crossfire’sglobal audience.

"We have been developing this project for a while and couldn’t be more excitedto show you what we’re working on, so stay tuned for more details later down the line.
