$100,000 Overwatch tournament to be held at Gamescom by ESL

ESL and Blizzard have teamed up to host a $100,000 Overwatch tournament at Gamescom later this year.

The ESL Overwatch Atlantic Showdown will take place on August 20th and 21st on the main stage of ESL’s Gamescom booth in Hall 9. Eight of the best Overwatch teams in the world will compete for the prize pool, which looks set to be the biggest amount given out at a single Overwatch event.

Open qualifiers for the event will kick off on June 27th, with final online qualifiers for each region taking place in July. All of the qualifier action will be streamed online, with Jason Kaplan, Mitch ‘Uber’ Leslie and Leigh ‘Deman’ Smith covering all the games four nights a week, starting on Mondays and ending on Thursdays.

The group stages of the competition will play out live on the Saturday of Gamescom, with the finals day played out on Sunday. Industry leading analysts and commentators will bring fans the action from Cologne, but specific names are yet to be announced.
