Guillermo del Toro to present Kojima with DICE Hall of Fame Award

There’s not a lawyer in the world that can stop Hideo Kojima from accepting his next award in person.

It has been confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid creator will become the 21st member of the DICE Hall of Fame at the 19th DICE Awards on February 19th. Furthermore, film director and former partner Guillermo del Toro will be at hand to present the gong.

Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement,” Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences president Martin Rae said.

As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it is a great honour for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame. Hideo is a game creator whose eyes have always looked towards the future, and we look forward to his thoughts on the DICE Summit stage.”

Kojima was last month blocked by Konami lawyers from accepting the Best Action/Adventure Game award at The Game Awards. He subsequently announced his departure from Konami and the opening of his own studio, which has partnered with Sony.

The acclaimed developer is also partnering with del Toro on an unspecified project. The pair were working together on Konami’s Silent Hills prior to its cancellation.
