Halo World Championship prize pool surpasses $2m

The prize pool for the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians World Championship has swelled to over $2m, 343 Industries has announced.

"We’re excited to announce that the Halo World Championship prize pool is now $2,000,000, and continues to grow,” a poston the game’s Twitter accountrevealed.

Microsoft previously promised a portion of all purchases of REQ packs for Halo 5’s Warzone mode when it announced the original $1m prize pool. Sales have been apparently going well for the pack, with 343 confirming a $500,000 increase to the pot in November prior to the half-million dollar jump this month.

The tournament kicks off later this month, with events running through March. It’ll feature eight teams from North America, four from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, two from Australia and New Zealand, one from Asia, and one from Latin America.
