Police thwart potential gun massacre at Pokemon World Championship

Two men who seemed intent on a shooting spree at the 12th Pokemon World Championships in Boston have been arrested.

The Daily Beast Reports that 27-year-old James Austin Stumbo and 18-year-old Kevin Norton, who had been invited to play at the tournament, were stopped when trying to enter the Hynes Convention Center for reasons that have not yet been revealed.

When the attending police officers radioed colleagues to investigate the pair, they were then informed that they had made threats of violence on social media.

One of these included a message from Stumbo picturing the guns and carrying the message: Kevin Norton and I are ready for Worlds Boston here we come!!!”

When their vehicle was searched police found a shotgun, assault rifle, hunting rifle and 250 rounds of ammo.

"Prior to the event this weekend, our community of players made us aware of a security issue," the Pokemon Company said. "We gathered information and gave it as soon as possible to the authorities at the Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center who acted swiftly and spearheaded communication with the Boston Police Department.

Due to quick action, the potential threat was resolved. The Pokemon Company International takes the safety of our fans seriously and will continue to ensure proper security measures are a priority."
