Pokémon fighting game Pokkén Tournament is coming to Wii U next Spring

It’s happening: Pokkn Tournament is headed to home consoles around the world in early 2016.

As its name suggests, the title is a combination of The Pokmon Company’s iconic creature-catching franchise and Bandai Namco’s series of brawlers, Tekken.

Pokkn adopts the 3D fighting game style of the latter games, allowing players to take direct control of the elemental animals and do battle, as opposed to the tradition turn-based strategy of the Pokmon entries.

The unique crossover title had previously been revealed for release in Japanese arcades, but had not been slated for a home release.

Now, however, Nintendo has confirmed that Pokkn will see a worldwide release on Wii U in Spring of next year.

A new trailer has also been unveiled, showing gameplay from the title as monsters such as Pikachu, Charizard, Gengar and Suicune go head-to-head.
