Mods will remain free for time-being

No plans for paid mods in Fallout 4

Bethesda has no plans to introduce paid-for mods in Fallout 4, the game’s director has claimed.

During the publishers E3 press conference, it was announced that fan-made mods would be made compatible with Xbox One.

There had since been suggestions that Bethesda may once again try to introduce paid-for mods into one of its titles, following its unsuccessful attempt to do the same on Skyrim on Steam.

But speaking to Spiegel Online, as translated by Kotaku, Fallout 4 game director Todd Howard said there are currently no plans for a payment system. He did not rule out the potential for paid-for mods in the future, however.

“How long was the online payment system? 24 hours?” said Howard.

“I can only speak for the present time, but currently there are no plans for a payment system.”
