Fumito Ueda founds GenDesign, staffed by Team Ico veterans

The Last Guardian director sets up new studio

The director of the long-awaited The Last Guardian and PS2 classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Fumito Ueda has set up a new studio.

As spotted by Kotaku, the new development firm is called GenDesign, and is allegedly made up of Ueda himself, as well as a number of veteran developers from Team Ico.

The firm’s site is adorned with some rather beautiful concept art for The Last Guardian under the studio’s ‘Works’ portfolio section. Incidentally, the site’s background looks oddly like the skeletal remains of The Last Guardian’s creature companion.

Ueda departed Sony at the end of 2011, with Sony saying that he was still committed to finishing The Last Guardian.

Last night at Sony’s E3 media briefing, his name was on the trailer for The Last Guardian as director.
