Shared world pirate adventure game is “by far the most ambitious game Rare has ever created”

E3 2015: Rare reveals Sea of Thieves for Xbox One

Rare has finally lifted the lid on its mysterious new project: Sea of Thieves.

This shared world adventure game puts players in the role of pirates, who can join together to form crews, sail ships and explore the seas.

The game was introduced by Rare studio head Craig Duncan during Xbox’s E3 press conference, who described the game as “by far the most ambitious game Rare has ever created”.

The demo shows players working together to sail ships, with different members of the team handling the sails, the helm and the cannons, as they battled another vessel, piloted by other players.

The debut followed the announcement of Rare Replay, a compilation of 30 games to mark Rare’s 30th Anniversary.

Releasing for Xbox One on August 4th, the title includes classic titles such as Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, Kameo, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Viva Pinata and Killer Instinct.
