Nintendo says NX will not use Android OS

The upcoming NX console will not use Google’s Android operating system, the company has said.

There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX,” a spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal.

A report from Japanese news source Nikkei said yesterday that the touted move to Android was driven by Nintendo’s need to attract third party developers. The article also claimed that Nintendo apparently considered bringing its games to mobile phones 15 years ago, but eventually withdrew from an agreement with Japanese telecoms firm Docomo.

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has also stressed that the company will not be discussing its new console at E3 later this month.
