UsTwo Games reports almost $6m made so far in sales of acclaimed puzzle game

Monument Valley revenues four times more than dev costs

Monument Valley was a big hit for UK developer UsTwo Games last year. Not just for myself, but also a wide array of developers.

Now UsTwo has revealed just how popular it has been with the game-playing public. In an infographic on the game’s official blog – which you can also read below – the studio reports that revenues generated by Monument Valley come to $5.8m. That’s four times more than the $1.4m it cost to develop both the original game and its Forgotten Shores expansion.

Speaking of which, it turns out the disgruntled consumers that gave the game one-star reviews for daring to charge for such an expansion are in the minority: Forgotten Shores racked up 575,608 sales, accounting for 1 in 5 Monument Valley players.

Total sales of the original game comes to 2.4m – meaning it has shifted another 1m copies since November – with 1.7m on iOS. 38 per cent of those sales came from the United States – leaps and bounds ahead of the next highest country, China at 12 per cent.

Not bad for a title developed by a core team of just eight people, eh?
