New £15,000 fund to be made available to female developers

Queen of Code campaign aims to support women in games

Creative England and Crowdfunder have launched a Queen of Code campaign aimed at supporting women developers in England to make games.

The scheme will supply £5,000 in extra funding to the first three successful crowdfunding campaigns on the Crowdfunder website.

The campaign is part of plans to entice more women into games. It is claimed that only 12 per cent of people making games in the UK are women, which the two organisations hope to help change.

“We regularly support games studios across the English regions but we don’t see nearly enough female developers putting applications in.

“We know there are some incredible female devs out there, and it’s important for us work with the industry to even out the playing field. We hope that ‘Queen of Code’ will help women in the industry engage with us through this exciting collaboration with Crowdfunder, and ultimately enrich an already blossoming games sector in the UK.”
