Prototype was shelved for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

Next Level Games was working on new Metroid

Canadian studio Next Level Games was developing a brand new entry in the Metroid series, it has emerged.

NintendoOnline.de reports that the studio pitched a new Metroid game to Nintendo, and even had a working prototype.

A Next Level employee even added artwork of Samus in her iconic power suit to his portfolio, labelled "property of Next Level Games".

Meanwhile, a source told Destructoid more about the Metroid pitch: "A prototype was maid before being shelved in favour of Luigi’s Mansion 2. It was about as bare-bones as it gets, but it was still pretty fun."

The studio’s last release was the aforementioned Luigi title, which hit shelves back in March 2013. With more than a year passed, could work have resumed on the mystery Metroid game?
