Flappy Bird has returned… via the Amazon Appstore

Dong Nguyen’s iOS flash-in-the-pan Flappy Bird is back.

Strangely, new title Flappy Birds Family isn’t available on the Apple App Store or Google Play and can only be had through the Amazon Appstore. It’s free and is compatible with Amazon’s Fire TV platform.

Flappy Birds now are on Amazon Fire TV with incredible new features,” the blurb reads. Person vs Person mode, more obstacles, more fun and still very hard. Enjoy playing the game at home (not breaking your TV) with your family and friends.”

It’s not clear if the game has been snapped up by Amazon as a Fire TV exclusive or whether it will eventually hit other platforms.

The game became an overnight sensation back in February, helped in no small part by Nguyen’s decision to subsequently remove it over apparent fears that it was dangerously addictive – as well as the distasteful reaction from some members of the public.

A spate of clones then flooded app stores and eBay was forced to remove listings for handsets on which the game was installed being sold for ridiculous prices.
