Average game developer salary down from 2012

The average salary for game developers saw a year-on-year decrease of 2 per cent in 2013, according to the latest Game Developer Salary Survey.

Gamasutra’s research found that professionals working in audio made a higher salary than all other disciplines, with professionals making an annual average of $95,682 USD.

Programmers were close behind, averaging $93,251. Producers earned an average of $82,286, artists and animators earned $74,349, game designers made $73,864 and quality assurance staff averaged $54,833.

The survey also showed a 161 per cent increase in the average salary of indie studio teams, but a 49 per cent drop for solo indie devs.

The survey is based on information gathered from 4,000 responses worlwide from January 1st, 2013 to December 31st, 2013.
