Servers to be shut down by August 15th

Free-to-play Ridge Racer Driftopia going offline

Ridge Racer’s foray into the world of free-to-play is coming to an end in the summer.

Bandai Namco has confirmed that it will turn off the game’s servers by August 15th. The Bugbear-developed title had been widely criticised for its implementation of microtransactions.

“The leading developer and publisher wanted to take this opportunity to thank all its players for their permanent support and dedication,” an official statement read. “All the feedbacks will be taken into account for the upcoming projects.”

The game was announced in April of last year and entered beta for both PS3 via PSN and PC through Steam in September 2013.
