Mobile and electronics firm wants to beat Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus to market, sources claim

Report: Samsung making virtual reality headset

Samsung is working on its own virtual reality headset for mobile and tablets, according to a report.

Sources “close to Samsung” have told Engadget the VR tech is being built at the firm’s mobile division and will be announced this year.

It was claimed the company was keen to beat rival headsets the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus to market.

Developers are reported to have already had hands on with a prototype of the device. The consumer version is expected to be powered by as yet unannounced smartphones and tablets.

Responding to the report, a spokesperson said: "Samsung doesn’t comment on rumour and speculation".
