Layoffs at Sega Europe hit Sonic and mobile teams

An unspecified number of job losses have hit Sega’s London-based European office.

"Sega is in the process of consolidating certain functions of the Sonic and Mobile departments within Sega of America, where the management and production for those areas of the business reside," a spokesperson told Polygon.

"As part of that strategy a limited number of redundancies have taken effect in our European office, based in London."

It’s the latest in a long line of restructuring moves that span back many years.

In 2009 it slashed its arcade and R&D operations, resulting in the loss of some 560 jobs. A little over a year later an additional 73 roles were cut from its Western operations.

Further downsizing plans were revealed in 2012 as well as intentions to ‘streamline’ operations and then last year Sega of America was hit with an unspecified number of losses.
