GDC 2014: Computing firm plots summer PC gaming announcements

Phil Spencer: Renewed Microsoft focus on PC is definitely happening

Microsoft is plotting a renewed focus on Windows and PC gaming, claims head of Microsoft Studios Phil Spencer.

As reported by Polygon, Spencer said on stage at GDC that it was “definitely happening”, and the firm was fundamentally committed to doing more for PC gamers.

“You will see more focus from us – not to go compete with what Valve has done, but because we also understand as the platform holder it’s important for us to invest in the platform in a real way,” he said.

Spencer praised the work Valve had done in the PC gaming space with Steam, and admitted the Half-Life developer had focused more on the sector than Microsoft had itself, despite dominating the OS space with Windows.

He went on to say that more on the computing firm’s plans for Windows PC gaming would be announced in the summer.
