Free-to-play games firm Kabam has acquired Castle Age and Underworld Empire developer Phoenix Age.
The San Francisco studio houses 44 employees, who will continue to work at their current office.
Kabam did not disclose the details of the acquisition, but said the purchase would bolster its games catalogue in the RPG genre on web and mobile.
“We jumped at the opportunity to bring Phoenix Age into the Kabam family,” said Kabam COO Kent Wakeford.
“Phoenix Age’s hit games and world-class talent further solidify Kabam’s leadership role in the free-to-play games space while expanding Kabam into new genres.”
As well as acquiring Phoenix Age, Kabam has previously bought companies such as Exploding Barrel Games, WonderHill, Fearless Studios, Gravity Bear, Wild Shadow Studios and Balanced Worlds.
In 2013, Kabam reported revenues of more than $360 million, and has forecast revenue of between $550m to $650m by the end of the year.
As a result of its success, the company is said to be eyeing up an IPO.
