Games division sees solid performance from mobile and digital sales

Sega-Sammy profits up 400%

Sega-Sammy has reported profits for the latest quarter are up 400 percent from last year after a strong showing from the digital sector.

It hasn’t been easy for Sega’s holding company in recent months, but today’s earnings report could be a sign of changing times for the publisher.

Between April and June the company drew $923.6 million in revenues – an increase of 29.6 percent – and made $131.8 million in profits.

That last figure is 408 percent higher than last year, with digital sales leading the charge back into black.

The games division accounted for $192 million of revenues with an operational income of just under $400,000.

Mobile was a good part of the company’s success, with Poyopuyo!! Quest scoring 2 million downloads in Japan and PlayStation Vita title Phantasy Star Online 2 selling over half a million copies at retail and digital outlets.

Sega’s brick and mortar sales don’t look bad either, as Company of Heroes 2 released at the close of the period, but had already sold 380,000 copies at retail by the end of June.
