Atlus’ parent company Index files for bankruptcy

Catherine, Persona and Shin Megami Tensei publisher Atlus could be in trouble.

Its parent company Index Holdings, which purchased Atlus in 2006, has filed for bankruptcy with the Tokyo District Court. Its debts are said to total 160m.

It now seems likely that Atlus will be sold at part of Index’s salvage plan.

It was revealed last month that index was under investigation for improper accounting”.

While Atlus has had few significant hit releases in the West, it is responsible for a number of cult releases including the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series, Trauma Center, Etrian Odyssey, Catherine and Demon’s Souls.
