Ouya tech "is a generation old"

The tech housed in the upcoming Android console Ouya lags significantly behind many other modern Andorid devices.

VentureBeat reports that results using benchmarking software Futuremark suggested that Ouya ranks 73rd in the Android power league table. That’s ahead of the likes of Google’s Nexus 7 tablet but behind devices such as LG’s Nexus 4 smartphone, which more than doubled Ouya’s Futuremark score.

Rivals such as the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S IV rate even higher.

The Nexus 7 or Galaxy S III are regarded by many as ‘the industry standard’. They score just over 5,000 on Futuremark. Ouya, by contrast, scored just over 4,000.

GameInformer magazine concluded from the numbers that Ouya’s tech is a generation old”.

It should be noted, of course, that Ouya will retail for $99 – a fraction of the price of the aforementioned smartphones. And of course it’s hardly as if graphical clout will be the driving force behind Ouya’s market pitch.
