Nintendo shutting down several online Wii services

Wii owners will lose access to a number of the machine’s online functions this summer.

CVG reports that the Nintendo, News, Weather, Everybody Votes and Mii Contest Channels will be switched off for good on June 28th. Also going is the ability to send messages on the Wii Message Board as well as the exchange of Mii characters.

Some data exchange functions in certain games will also be terminated.

The Wii Shop Channel and the Today’s Accomplishments message service will remain active.

"We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company’s products," a statement read. "We apologise to those of you currently using these services."
