In the wake of an anti-same-sex marriage act in the US, publisher takes on hate in games

EA hosts event about LGBT issues in games

EA is holding an event to discuss LGBT issues in games in New York today.

The event comes shortly after EA signed a document opposing a controversial act which forbids same-sex marriage in the US.

Known as EA Full Spectrum, the event will bring together leaders from the LGBT and video games community to talk about the state of hate in games, the origins of homophobia in games, the development of authentic LGBT characters and whether the industry is doing enough to combat hate.

Speakers and delegates at the event will include Gordon Bellamy of Tencent, Matt Bromberg general manager of BioWare Austin and Dan Hewitt of the ESA.

EA has been a vocal supporter of LBGT rights, shown most recently by its decision to oppose the Defense of Marriage Act (DoMA), along with other game publishers.

MCV reported last year, that the publisher was awarded a 100 per cent rating in a LGBT workplace equality report by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation in 2012. It has also giving its backing to GaymerCon, a gay-focused gaming and tech convention in Germany.
