Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider to discuss sexism and sexuality in games

Love-themed talks make way to GDC

A number of love-in-games talks are making their way to this year’s Game Developers conference, organisers have announced.

Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider will host a presentation entitled ‘Sex in video games’, and will discuss how addressing or ignoring social issues such as sexism and sexuality can affect game sales and public perception about developers.

Schell Games’ Heidi McDonald will disclose research on how men and women approach NPC romance in games, which is designed to help narrative designers learn from her 500-person survey to address “the romance motivations of several types of players at once”.

Drop7 and Parking Wars developer Frank Lantz meanwhile will look at the mathematical analysis of conflict and decision making in games, and how it can influence game design in his talk called Strange Love: Game theory vs. Game design.

Although early bird discounts for this year’s GDC have now ended, attendees can still save up to $100 off on-site passes if they book before March 20th.

GDC 2013 will take place between March 25th and 29th at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco.

Develop will be out in force at the event to cover all the latest and breaking stories as they happen. The March issue of Develop will also be available throughout the conference.
