Further trouble at Last Guardian developer as another key employee leaves studio

Shadow of the Colossus producer leaves Sony

The producer of Shadow of the Colossus and Ico has quit Sony.

Taking to Twitter, Kenji Kaido revealed he had left Team Ico, but did not have anything lined up for the immediate future.

Kaido’s decision to leave Sony comes after the departure Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda and The Last Guardian’s executive producer Yoshifusa Hayama, who left to join Bossa Studios.

“I retired from SCE this August,” said Kaido.

“Plans for the future are still undecided, while I’m going to continue to summer vacation.”

Despite huge success with the critically acclaimed Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, the Sony studio has struggled over recent years due to the troubled development of its latest game The Last Guardian.

Whilst Sony has insisted the title is still in development, it has yet to be seen in playable form since it was first revealed in March 2009.

Ueda, who was leading development on the game before his departure, is said to still be committed to completing The Last Guardian, and is currently working at the studio on a contract basis.
