Crytek’s Ryse more than a year away from release

Ryse, the melee combat Kinect title from Crytek, which was revealed at Microsoft’s E3 press conference last year, won’t be hitting stores for at least another year, the platform owner has revealed.

Speaking to The Verge, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer said that while the game was still very much in production, "it’s not something we’ll be shipping in the next 12 months."

Spencer added that since Microsoft wasn’t the biggest first party”, it was taking time to perfect the game. Things we do have to matter when they come out because the opportunity cost for us is high and we focus on things. I’m not trying to fill a portfolio; I’m trying to create unique experiences and that means we sometimes take longer than some other people do but I want to make sure we make our best effort forward when we get a game done."

Ryse was conspicuous by its absence at this year’s E3, sparking speculation that the game was either cancelled or pushed back for a release on the next Xbox console. Spencer, however, added that the game was still playable on Xbox 360.
