O2 to block Pirate Bay from midnight tonight

Broadband provider O2 will from midnight tonight (Friday May 8th) block access to The Pirate Bay.

The move will also mean that customers of Be Broadband, a subsidiary of O2, will also have their access blocked.

"The main UK internet providers were ordered by the high court to block access to specific IP addresses and URLs used by The Pirate Bay website,” Be said in a statement.

"We have no option but to comply with this order and will be doing so overnight."

On April 30th the High Court ordered that all UK ISPs block access to the site – the first such ruling in the country.

TalkTalk is now the only UK ISP named in the court order that has yet to implement the block. BT successfully applied for an extension to the order and had yet to announce its intentions.
