GameStop announces inaugural GameStop EXPO 2012

The US is getting a brand new consumer games expo.

Retailer GameStop has announced that it will hold the GameStop EXPO 2012 in San Antonio, Texas on August 29th. It’s the first event of its kind that the company has hosted.

In fact, it’s copying the model laid down bay GAME last year by running the show as an extension of its annual conference.

The event will be open to members of its GameStop PowerUp Rewards consumer loyalty programme.

It will be held at the 200,000 square foot Gonzalez Centre. General admission will cost $35, though VIP passes – which include four panel sessions, access to the VIP gaming lounge and fast track VIP queues – will cost $100.

Gamers are able to purchase tickets with their in-store credit as well as via credit card.

UK retailer GAME had previously indicated that it would host a second GAMEfest this year, though this now seems increasingly unlikely owing to its turbulent start to the year and buyout at the hands of OpCapita.
