Vita debuts free-to-play with Treasures of Montezuma Blitz

Alawar Entertainment has announced Treasures of Montezuma Blitz, a puzzle title in the style of Bejeweled and the very first free-to-play game for the PlayStation Vita.

Vita owners can download the title on the PSN for free, and all power-ups can either be earned in-game or purchased as micro transactions via the in-game store.

"A lot of people look at freemium or free-to-play games and think you have to spend money to be competitive and beat your friends," Alawar Entertainment Product Manager Polina Belavskaya stated on the US Playstation blog."That’s actually not the case with this game.

"We built the game so it is actually really fun whether you’re earning your power-ups by playing a lot and being rewarded in-game for your persistence, or if you are short on time and want the benefits of being a seasoned and dedicated player, you can spent a little to get a short-term power-up."

The game uses crystals as the in-game currency. Players receive a certain amount for free every day, and can purchase more for one dollar and three dollar bundles.

"It’s really the best of both worlds since it respects players that have a lot of time, as well as those that don’t."
