Notch reveals new sci-fi game 0x10c

Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson is working on a futuristic space game which could feature a monthly subscription.

The title, known as 0x10c, is set in the future of a parallel universe where the space race never ended. Five humans are put into a deep sleep cell in 1988 and wake up millions of years later.

Players can take part in space battles with others, trade, loot and even mine.

The game is still extremely early in development, but like we did with Minecraft, we expect to release it early and let the players help me shape the game as it grows,” Notch said on the game’s official site.

The cost of the game is still undecided, but it’s likely there will be a monthly fee for joining the ‘Multiverse’ as we are going to emulate all computers and physics even when players aren’t logged in. [The] Single-player [mode] won’t have any recurring fees.”

Notch is the founder of development studio Mojang. He developed Minecraft which was initially released in 2009. By January 2011 it had sold 1m units, and as of February this year it had topped 5m copies sold.

Today Minecraft is available on iOS and Android. It will be released on Xbox Live Arcade on May 9th.

Other games in development at Mojang include RPG Scrolls, action game Cobalt and strategy shooter Catacomb Snatch.
